The floor of the Rotunda features an intricate design and is made out of Tennessee pink marble.

The Ceremonial Rotunda is where many weddings or vows of domestic partnership are performed.

Perhaps the most famous City Hall wedding was that of Joe DiMaggio and Marilyn Monroe.

The stairs have been named the Charlotte Maillard Shultz stairs in honor of San Francisco’s Chief of Protocol.

The Grand staircase leads from the Rotunda floor to the Ceremonial Rotunda and the Board of Supervisor’s Chamber.

 

The walls that surround the Rotunda are made of limestone blocks from the state of Colorado

The Medallion of Equality has the equilateral triangle in her hand

People's Palace로 알려진 샌프란시스코 시청은 샌프란시스코 시와 카운티의 정부 소재지이다.

또한 관광객과 사진작가가 자주 방문하는 역사적 랜드마크이기도 하다. 테마별 컬러 LED가 밤에 건물을 밝힌다.

오늘날 보시는 시청은 짓는 데 2년이 걸렸다. 강철, 화강암, 그리고 4층의 흰색 대리석 내부는 샌프란시스코의 회복력의 상징으로,

1906년 4월 18일 대지진과 화재로 이전 시청이 파괴된 후에 지어졌다. 

시민 지도자들은 1915년 세계박람회가 시작되기 전에 도시의 재탄생을 보여주기로 결심했다.

건축가 아서 브라운 주니어가 설계하고 1913년에 시작한 이 건물은 원주민과 전 세계 사람들이 금박을 입힌 외관 디테일,

웅장한 계단, 거대한 돔에 경외감을 느꼈다. 높이가 307피트인 돔은 미국 수도의 돔보다 무려 42피트 더 높다.

지난 세기 동안 이 건물은 국회의원 구성에 있어 중대한 정치적 격변과 인구통계학적 변화를 겪었다.

시청은 종종 드라마의 중심지이다. 시청은 Dirty Harry와 Indiana Jones부터 Invasion of the Body Snatchers까지 영화의 촬영지였다.

1989년 10월 17일 규모 7.1의 지진이 발생하여 돔 자체가 4인치 정도 움직일 정도로 시청이 심하게 손상되었다.

1999년에 완료된 수리 및 복원에는 베이스 아이솔레이터 시스템(base isolator system)이라고 불리는 지진 안전 강화가 포함되었다.

이는 기초의 충격과 움직임을 흡수하여 위의 구조물을 보호한다.
