지구의 반대편에 있는 페루에서도 더 아마존으로 들어간 이키토스는 참으로 생소하다.

이키토스는 도시면적의 3분의 1이 아마존에 접한 정글지대다. 우기가 되면 더러운 물웅덩이가 생기고 대부분의 살립집에는 하수도 시설이 없다.

여기에 섭씨 37도를 웃도는 무더위까지 겹쳐 모기도 들끓는다. 위생상태가 좋지 않다보니 기생충, 말라리아, 피부병, 호흡기 질환, 뎅기열 환자가 많다

 

 

 

 

차비 1솔(우리 돈 500원 정도)이 없어 먼 길을 걸어오는 사람도 많다. 여기선 1솔이면 한 끼 밥값이란다.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

고추가 크기는 작은 것이 엄청 맵다.

San Juan Bautista Church - commonly known as "Iglesia Matriz"

Located in front of the Plaza de Armas, between streets Arica y Putumayo.

This is the main church of the city, and of the Catholic church.

It was constructed during the period form 1911 to 1924.

The church was reconstructed by Father Abencio Villarejo, from 1944 to 1949.

It is thought that the original structure was located in the area of the current Plaza de Armas.

It is well preserved, being part of Peru Cultural Historical Patrimony.

The church has European details, a carved wooden pulpit,

and elaborate stained glass windows through support of various organizations and donors.

The Swiss clock in the steeple was installed in 1925.

Inside the church, there are curved arches and beautiful images of the church painted by a known artist Cesar Calvo de Araujo and others,

such as at the high altar where, to the left side, is a scene of the Consecration of the Blessed Virgin Mary,

celebrating the 25th anniverary of the Sisterhood of the Daughters of Mary.

In the center, the Virgin Mary appearing over the Amazon River opposite the city of Iquitos.

And to the right, the Augustinian missionaries evangelizing tn the Napo River area of Iquitos,

with an image of Our Lady of Good Counsel, patron Saint of the Agustinian missions.

The church is open from 6:30am to noon, and from 4pm to 8pm.
Masses: 6am, 8am, 11am, 6pm. (can change during Holy periods)

철제로  지어진 이 건물은 파리의 유명한 건축가 Gustav Eiffel에 의해 디자인한  "casa de hierro"로,

이것은 원래 파리에 지어진 것이었는데, 부유한 이키토스의 한 백작이 그것을 그대로 옮겨온 것이라고 한다.

아마존의 관문인 이키토스는 토착문화에 유럽, 아시아의 영향을 받아 매우 독특한 문화를 가진 도시이다.

이곳에는 이태리와 포르투갈로부터 건너온 타일로 만들어진 유럽 스타일의 건물에서

1880년대의 유물들을 볼수 있다.

21세기에 들어서는 유럽 기술 문화의 영향을 받아 이키토스의 도심지와 도시 외곽지역의 차이는 빠르게 나고 있다.
이곳 도시의 주민들은 가난함에도 불구하고 따뜻하고, 친절하며, 자기일에 열심이다.

 또한 새벽 두시까지도 도시는 활기에 넘쳐있다.

 Plaza de Armas와 Malecon Tarapaca가 이키토스의 중신인데,

이곳에서는 밤마다 축제를 벌이며 인생을 즐긴다.
