 이름 그대로 조개껍질로만 이루어진 해변이다. 

셀비치는 수 많은 조개껍질로 이루어진 해변이다.

파도가 없으면 잔잔한 호수처럼 느껴진다. 조개껍질로 된 해변의 110km나 된다고 한다. 

 

 해변에 들어서면 조개껍데기에 눈이 부셔서 눈을 찡그려야 한다

 

모래에 조개껍질이 섞여 있는 해변은 많지만 100% 조개껍질로만 이루어진 해변은 세상에 단 두곳밖에 없다고 한다.

새조개의 한 종류인 코클cockle이란 조개는 염도가 매우 높은 곳에서도 살 수 있다

조개의 천적의 방해없이 많은 조개들이 살다가 죽으면 해변으로 밀려와서 생긴 해변이다.

4000년이상 쌓인 조개껍질이 10m깊이나 되고 길이는 120Km나 된다

Formed from billions of tiny shells, aptly named Shell Beach in the Shark Bay World Heritage Area
is popular for swimming, beach combing and relaxing in the sunshine.
Shell Beach is one of only a handful of places on earth where shells replace beach sand in such a dramatic and picturesque way. 
This beautiful snow-white beach is made up of millions of tiny shells up to 10 metres deep and stretching for over 120 kilometres.
A walk on Shell Beach is like no other. Incredibly, the beach is made up of shells from just one type of animal, making it truly unique.
n years gone by, the shells were hard packed, cut into blocks and used to construct a number of historic buildings in the nearby town of Denham.

The shells were once used to build the office walls of buildings in the area, some of which can still be seen today.

On a still day, the ocean at Shell Beach transforms into a palette of the most intense greens blues.

To get there, drive about 45 minutes from Denham - it's accessible to all vehicles.
You can fly to Denham from Perth or it takes about a day to drive there from Perth.

 

 

 

조개껍질은 닭사료와 그릇을 만드는데 사용된다. 혹은 사무실벽을 만드는데 사용한 흔적이 아직도 있다

 

 

 

 

 

 

한낮의 더위에 조개껍질이 달아서 맨발로 걸을 수가 없다.
